Downtown Greenfield was the place to be Friday, December 7th!
With a variety of events spread throughout downtown, there was something–or many things–for everyone. Jingle Fest opened with retailers and crafts-people setting up shop for the 2nd annual Holiday Pop-up Market at The Pushkin on the corner of Federal and Main Streets. GBA-elves put out luminaries to light-up downtown with a little extra festive touch in addition to the holiday lights adorning the street posts all season. Well over 100 people gathered at Veterans Mall to listen to local choral and a-capella groups, sip hot cocoa and eat cookies from Girl Scouts, and "ooo" for the annual tree-lighting. The crowd parted only for the red flashing light of Santa's sleigh. No, it wasn't Rudolf but Greenfield's own Fire Department giving Santa a ride to the tree-lighting and to greet the many children who flocked to him! For the rest of the evening, attendees could wander downtown to enjoy a free showing of "A Charlie Brown Christmas," live theater and music, arts and craft activities, and eat, drink, and be merry at the restaurants and shops. Many spent the evening at the YMCA for Family Night which was open and free to the community. Many businesses sponsored a Punch Card Contest requiring people to visit their businesses in order to qualify for the contest prizes of hundreds of dollars worth of gift certificates, coupons, and goodies. The night came to a close with live music at Hawks and Reed—and many community members in the holiday spirit as they headed home.
Much of the fun continued throughout the weekend with the Holiday Pop-up Market at The Pushkin on Saturday and Sunday. Hawks and Reed hosted live music and theater events both days and wrapped up with a Hanukkah party. It was a Greenfield Holiday Spectacular weekend!
